Carrie Rose Wolocko was born in Detroit, where she spent her first 10 years. She moved to the suburbs, later settling in Ann Arbor, where she attended the University of Michigan. She received a BFA in 1997, with concentrations in printmaking and photography. She moved to Los Angeles in 2002 and switched her focus to painting and drawing.
Carrie Rose has exhibited her work throughout the Los Angeles area. Most recently was a 2-person show, Icons and Tangles, at L’KEG Gallery (September 2009). Her 2008 shows include 99 Red Balloons; Cactus Gallery, Los Angeles, CA; and the Lucky 11 Collective Debut; MJ Higgins @ the Firehouse, Los Angeles, CA (2008). Also in 2008, one of her paintings sold in the Friends of Mt. Washington Elementary School Art Auction; Huron Substation, Los Angeles, CA, raising critical funds for the school’s arts programming. In 2007 she had pieces in several group shows, including Snap to Grid (LACDA); Maximum of Maximums (Me & You Variety Candy); and Flags Unflown (truXtop gallery). 2006 saw her work in the Venice Art Walk & Auction (Track 16 Gallery, Santa Monica, CA) as well as fresh stART (Arena 1 Gallery, Santa Monica, CA).
Carrie’s work has also been exhibited in It’s the Love That Counts, Bikini Press International, Minneapolis, MN (2006); and Slop Art Showroom Catalog (2003). Some of her exhibitions in southeast Michigan include Twos and Threes, a solo show at Leopold Brothers, Ann Arbor, MI (2002); and the Third Annual North American International Anti-Autoshow; Detroit Contemporary, Detroit, MI (2000). She attended the Emerging Artist Residency at Women’s Studio Workshop, Rosendale, NY (2000).
Carrie Rose lives in Silverlake, works at her Glendale studio and freelances as a graphic designer.
